Clairesmum asked about chicken eggs at the ranch to go with the bacon from free range hogs. THIS is why we won't have chickens until the dogs are at the ranch full time.

We have so many bobcats that Son even saw one during the day. I won't shoot them on sight, but knowing we have so many certainly changes my plans for building chicken coops.

Until Briar is there full time, there will be no small livestock or chickens at the ranch. Even then, we'll build the pens so the dogs COMPLETELY surround the chicken pen. (like a moat filled with canines!) When the sun goes down out there, the predators come out like the flying monkeys in Oz.

Don't know what Bob cats are like as predators but if you have a few maybe a Briar LGD sidekick is in order.???? I bet the cats would eat the other dogs for breakfast.

I love cats of any size - from my own sweet kitty to tigers and lions. I wouldn't want to hurt a bobcat. What do they eat there? They must be useful in getting rid of some kind of vermin? Various rodents, perhaps? || Your wild animal pics are good! What other creatures show up? || I'm using "||" because I can never get my paragraphs to stay apart in your message area.

Raccoons! We have LOTS of raccoons. And turkey, and dove, and armadillo too. After a rain it's kinda neat to look at the animal tracks in the red dirt roads and around the creek to see what we've got there. I hear the turkeys every morning gobbling to each other.

And coyotes! We have coyotes too! Briar definitely needs help. The border collies wouldn't be much match for these wild critters. Ranger the Blue Heeler would be a formidable opponent though. He isn't big, but he's all muscle and he's a scrapper. Blue Heeler ain't going down easily! He and Briar could be quite a team.

Well, I can see why chickens will have to wait _- looks like they would be more like "sitting ducks" as the saying goes!
