True. Very true! The BCs aren't mean to him. They are just clickish and aren't playing with him. Trace decided that he'd much rather run the fenceline and stare at livestock than play with Dillon. To him, nothing in this world is more important than an animal with hooves. Dillon doesn't even SEE the hooved animals.

Wait for the first time Dillon spots a grouse or pheasant. My Lab pointed exactly like a true pointer with one paw raised, stock still. Water and feathers in Dillon's future! (Not to mention fetch toys.) I like your idea of Dillon as narcotics detection dog, earning his way. Perhaps that could be done after he proves his ability in fetching fowl.

I wonder what Alice would think of her replacement? Love that line about Dillon not being one of God's Chosen People! That sounds like a true Border Collie way of thinking.

Okay, my mother has informed me that I spelled "cliquish" incorrectly in the above comment. She also pointed out that Dillon looks like he has mange on top of his head. He does not . . . Dillon was playing with the water hose and is wet in the photo. (See Mom! I doubt anyone even noticed!)

Yeah, I guess he could be considered a replacement for Alice. Trace was a replacement for Kona. But it's not supposed to work that way - NO MORE DOGS! We really wanted to get it down to just 3! As for the BCs, Lily is VERY arrogant. Ranger is the only N-BC she will lower herself to play with anymore.

I thought my old Golden Retriever, Cassie, was the only color or breed prejudiced dog! Cass will only play nice with other Golden Retrievers. She likes to intimidate my mom's 2 Chocolate Labs. And she hates black dogs for some reason. Funny thing is she was raised with a Black Lab cross. The neighbor's Lab/Bassett cross is Ok because Zena is gold colored. My new puppy is ok because Gracie is a Golden Retriever. Cass love my other dog, Angel, who is also a Golden. But let a Black Lab cross her path on her evening walks and she becomes the Hell Hound. Snarls, curls her lips and acts like she could take them on. She's 12 and although she is fit and in excellent condition, she's a house dog. LOL

Your mom is a good proofreader and yes, someone else did wonder about the "mange" on Dillon's head.

"Dillon was playing with the water hose and is wet in the photo" Ah ha! I had assumed it was wet from drool -- like the wet spots on my cat's back when Terri decides to play with her by standing over her and ... err ... doing some unmentionable moves.

I like your choice of name for the new little guy, I have a dog named Dillon also. When I was choosing a name, I found that the meaning in Gaelic is Faithful. I'm sure he will live up to his name! I noticed the 'mange' also! :-)
