While this was a working vacation for us, it was a boring vacation for the dogs - lots of waiting in the truck, punctuated by playing in the water, long walks down red dirt roads, and chasing sticks. Before playing fetch, all stick must be brought to an official from the Texas Department Of Stick Inspections for approval.
(Note the Inspector's toes. Return to Hobbit Feet.) The Inspector carefully examines the stick for length, sharp ends, jagged branches, and anything else that could otherwise result in a trip to the vet's for the playee or the playee's companions. Thus Lily spent most of her vacation in search of The Perfect Stick. "This one?" "How 'bout this one?"
"Wait! It hasn't been inspected yet!" It fails inspection. . . And so, like a treasure hunter in search of the elusive sunken ship of gold, Lily continues to hunt North Texas for The Perfect Stick.
Comments:
Oh my! What a law-abiding dog Lily is. Mind you, living as she does with two law enforcement officers, I guess she could hardly be anything else ;-) It's a good thing Terri doesn't play in northern Texas 'cause she often forgoes the inspection when she spies a chewable stick :-)
P.S. Can't stop myself mentioning this -- they don't make very big sticks in Texas like they do in Ontario: http://www.kits-pups.info/MISC/chimowds.jpg ;-)

Good sticks are hard to come by here in North Texas and stay away from them dried cactus sticks, they don't enjoy being picked up ................

BC's and sticks. Here is a link to a short video. http://www.wimp.com/throwstick/
Does make me wonder what dogs think human beings really are.

Lily went from a dog that wouldn't fetch to a Fetching Fool with a stick obsession. An important part of her obsession is showing me her stick. She tries to bring everything from tiny twigs that snap when she brings them to small logs too heavy to drag.
