Everything I know to be true in life I learned from Scarlett O'Hara's father: "Land . . . it's the only thing that lasts." Yes, as a child of the South, I grew up on Gone With The Wind, and those words branded themselves deep into my psyche. And so it is that Other Half and I once again left in search of ranch land far away from The City. We had narrowed our search to one area and this time, we went with a realtor - who had to use a jeep to take us there. (my kind of place!) We stayed with friends and each morning the dogs and I rose to greet the day and play while Other Half slept in. It didn't suck.
The dogs vote for here!

So that's where you've been ;-) Nice water! I don't know enough about ranching to know if the grass types suit cattle/ goats/ sheep. So many questions -- just land for your herds or land to build a house on eventually? Water - is it salty or fresh? Is it clean -- really clean, not polluted in any way? Will it stay clean? (No upriver polluting industries?)
Exciting, in any case!

Water in Texas? didn' think you all had anything that nice. Go with the bc's, they always know what is good. Did you swim? did dogs swim? If you do go remember, the dogs will always be wet and probably cool

Don't I WISH! Unfortunately this lake isn't part of the property. The ranches we're looking at are all about 10-30 minutes from here. Each morning I was able to drive 5 minutes to the lake and let the dogs play while I took a walk.

The places we are looking at are all suitable for cattle, sheep, and goats. They have deer and wild turkey. The dogs were only allowed to run free on one ranch (because we were on our way out of town and drove our truck there instead of the realtor's jeep) They gave the big thumbs up on that one. It had a hay field!

great pictures! a different kind of beautiful land than what I am familiar with. the dogs look like they are having a glorious outing. Trace has grown up - he doesn't look like a puppy anymore - tho I imagine he still acts like one sometimes.

Yes, Trace is growing up! He almost looks like an adult now. This was his first vacation and he did quite well!
