I'm genuinely perplexed. I have these signs posted by my driveway: Our yard is gated. This one is on the driveway gate.
There is another fence around the house. This one is on the gate by the house. This one is on the gate leading into the barn. ALL of these signs can be seen from the driveway. So upon your initial approach into the yard, there should be NO doubt that we have dogs in this yard. And just in case you are a little slow . . . . Other Half's patrol truck is parked not 6 feet from the main gate! And guess what it reads! Now I tell you all this not to scare you away from visiting us. (Please do! After you help me fix fences, we can kick back and have a tall glass of sweet tea!) Nay, I tell you this because of the unbelievable incident that happened this morning!
The dogs and I were in the barn. Five (5!) dogs were with me. Other Half was asleep in the bedroom with 2 dogs and current police dog was in her outside kennel run that is behind the bedroom. Border Collie had just turned the sheep out and closed the gate when I heard the unmistakable sound of a human whistling for a dog. "Huh???" Surely I didn't hear what I just heard. I listened. Yep, there it was again. Someone was calling my dogs. Uh oh. Then I heard it. The chain to the main gate was being opened. Holy shit! (Yes! I said it out loud!) Sure enough, there was a meter reader walking past three signs and a K9 police truck to read a meter that they ALWAYS read with binoculars. (They began this after my pet goose, Bling, flew over the main gate and attacked a Meter Reader.) Armed with a small stick that had a tennis ball on the end, he was walking through the main gate. What was he thinking??? Signs don't apply to our intrepid young meter reader. . . I'm sure he's good with dogs. . . He probably has dogs of his own. . . Dogs like him . . . He feels he has a right to be on my property. The sign on his truck makes it official. And the list goes on. Guess what! This dog doesn't read. Don't show him your credentials. He doesn't care. He will come. He will come fast . . . and he will bring 4 to 6 of his best friends. What really bothers me is that despite ALL those signs, someone would still walk onto my property, and this poor dog (and probably the others) could get in trouble for DOING THEIR JOB! Now I understand that this may not be intimidating to people: But come ON, People! THIS SHOULD! So I saved him before the dogs ate him. Then I thanked God that I was home when he tried this stunt. This shook me. I haven't told Other Half yet. (He is still sleeping.) All I can do is post signs and say a little prayer that God will protect them and the fools that walk through those signs. Dear Lord, please protect my dogs, kind and gentle creatures that are only doing their jobs, from the arrogance and ignorance around them. Comments:
Must be a new guy, or a sub? I hope he was scared, by you if not the dogs. Have you called his supervisor yet and read him the riot act too? Maybe file a complaint too. The best defense etc.
I'm curious as to what Other Half will have to say.

Holy crap! People like that scare ME! They think they are above everyone and the LAW! Call his boss ASAP before other half does!! LOL!

Incredible! A ball on a stick? Wonder if he had some Mace on him, too?
I guess you're going to have to have your own sign made along the lines of, "Fair warning: Open this gate and my 6+ dogs will eat you."

In Wisconsin, by putting up signs like that, you are silently implying you KNOW your dogs are dangerous. You ARE liable.
Our insurance guy told me if I put up a warning sign, to make sure I also had a *no trespass* sign right under it.
LOL...I think if I came to visit you, I would sit in my vehicle until you told me it was safe.

I put locks on all of my gates. They are the nice brass combo locks, so those that have business here have the number code It's a shame, but it works. You can set all the codes the same, or leave one different if it's important to have one more secure. Then if someone rattles the chain, they are stuck on the wrong side while you aren't crapping your pants way too far from saving their silly hide. It happened one too many times for me so that's where the locks became necessary. They are really handy. No one can leave a gate open after coming through, either. Added bonus!

I called the power company to make sure that they changed our paper work to reflect the fact that we had "Police Dogs" on the property and they were to use binoculars or call me first. I also want to put locks on the gates. The "No Trespassing" sign sounds good too. (still shaking my head in disbelief!)

Bet the LGD is not as biddable as the Collie. :)
Lovely read as usual

No, the LGD certainly isn't as biddable as the BC, but she does listen a lot more than my Bloodhound. That surprises me.
