Holy Cow!

Oh MY GOSH!

Other Half photographed Border Collie working calves today. YIKES! These pictures scare the crap out of me!

This heifer looks like a rodeo cow!

"DUCK, Lily DUCK!!!"

Please tell me she didn't get kicked in the face.

This little bull calf is quite the kicker.

"Duck Lily, DUCK!"

She finally got them to tow the line.

It was hard work though. Look at that tongue!

Okay, call me a chicken, but these pictures scared the crap outta me! I love this little dog and would be devastated if I lost her. On the other hand, she had the time of her life. This is clearly what she was bred to do. She obviously loves working the cows and with a little practice, she will be as much help with the cows as she is with the sheep and goats.

Still . . . I think I should get a Saint Francis tag for her collar!

I feel the same way when Emma June works the horses. She's much more confident and happy moving them than the sheep, but I can hardly stand it. I have to bite my tongue, since I am aware that my voice can distract her and actually cause her harm. You do the same and Lily will be fine. As fine as any good dog can be working livestock. Trust the dog, keep your mouth shut, and keep praying she'll be safe. So far it has worked for me and Emma June!

I understand completely! I'm almost afraid to distract her for fear that she'll get kicked. These are just yearling calves, but they are serious about kicking! I told Other Half that if he's serious about teaching Border Collie to work cows, he might want to buy her some dead-broke roping steers to start with instead of half-wild yearlings!
